What should I expect in the first session?

Sessions are always 55 minutes long. In our first session, I will learn more about you and the concerns that are bringing you into therapy, and we will work together to formulate a plan. Sometimes, more than one session is needed to gather the necessary background info to create a viable plan. Our initial session(s) together also help both of us determine if we are a good fit to work together. If you or I determine that we are not a good fit, I will provide you with referrals for other therapists who may be.

What are some examples of mind-body therapeutic interventions?

The goal of these interventions is to use your mind and body together, often to calm your nervous system. Interventions may include body scan meditations where you draw your attention systematically from your head to your feet to bring awareness to where you may be holding stress or tightness in your body while discussing different topics and drawing awareness into different emotions. Another intervention may be as simple as pressing your feet into the floor for 5 seconds at a time to spark a more grounded state of being.
